Jordan Henderson doubtful for Liverpool’s match against Arsenal

Liverpool may be without captain Jordan Henderson when
the Reds travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal on Monday.
Henderson was taken off shortly after halftime in
Liverpool’s win last week over Bournemouth with a foot
injury, and manager Brendan Rodgers has said he is taking
it “day-by-day.”

However, based on recent a quote from the midfielder
himself, it seems as if he won’t be fit for the match against
Arsenal. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo :
I have done something with my heel so every time I sort of
plant my foot, whether I’m running or walking, I can feel it. It
has settled down over the last few days but I don’t know
what it will be like in terms of Monday.
Hopefully it settles down some more. I just have to keep
doing what I have been told to do by the physios in terms of
treatment and hopefully it gets better.
If I do play what is the risk and how long could I be out
potentially if I do something in the game? That is the
problem. There are many factors that the manager and the
medical team need to decide.”
Henderson admitted he has been having this issue on and
off for a few months now, but the pain flared up during
Liverpool’s opening match against Stoke City, and became
too much to play through against Bournemouth.
If Henderson is not able to go, Lucas Leiva could be recalled
to the squad after being left out of the side in Liverpool’s
opening two matches. Lucas has recently been linked with a
possible loan move to Turkish side Besiktas, but now he
may be needed by Brendan Rodgers in the Premier League.
