The Reds splashed out a whopping £32.5m for the 24-year-old Belgian, who became their seventh major signing of the summer behind James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Joe Gomez.
Benteke’s addition leaves Brendan Rodgers well-stocked in terms of strikers, with the likes of Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli and the aforementioned Ings all available to the Northern Irishman
As a result the club are looking to axe some of their current crop, with Borini and Lambert set to move on.
The one-cap Italy international is thought to be attracting attention from West Ham and Fiorentina, and his agent, Marco De Marchi, has told Liverpool to expect bids soon – albeit they’re unlikely to be level with the offers from QPR and Sunderland a year ago.
Lambert is also free to move on, but a proposed switch to West Brom will have to wait until the Merseysiders return from their tour of the Far East and Australia next week.
Balotelli is also surplus to requirements, but his £100,000-per-week wages are, reportedly, proving to be problematic.
